Taking inspiration from Kelli Connell, I created these photographic compositions by combining two photographs using Adobe Photoshop. “By digitally creating a photograph that is a composite of multiple negatives of the same model in one setting, the self is exposed as not a solidified being in reality, but as a representation of social and interior investigations that happen within the mind.”

With the theme of ‘puzzle’ I began my project quite simply by adding cut out layers of physical photographs. The same model featured in different positions within the frame that together made one picture but folded back to reveal the backgrounds beneath. I then progressed to creating these compositions digitally and used the model only twice each time to represent oppositional personal attributes e.g dominant and submissive. Realising the two personifications are the same model is itself a puzzle at first, but I think through constructed realities people can think about, question and identify with the relationships that exist within them.
